Code of Student Responsibility
The Code helps all of us in our mission to provide opportunities for working adult students to fulfill life and career goals through learning. As members of the University’s academic community, students are responsible for respecting the rights and privileges of others, and for fostering an environment conducive to study. Membership in our community means accepting an obligation to:
- Deal ethically with fellow students, faculty members, and University staff members.
- Recognize and embrace the diverse contributions of fellow students, faculty members, and staff in creating an environment embodied in the principles of mutual respect and acceptance of differences.
- Help to foster a productive learning atmosphere where everyone can do his or her best.
- Assess one’s own and others’ academic and interpersonal strengths and weaknesses by constructively accepting and providing feedback.
- Recognize one’s own personal and professional values and the personal and professional values of others.
- Demonstrate self-reliance and self-direction in the setting and completion of individual and group learning goals and objectives.
- Accept responsibility and accountability for one's own actions, oral and written communications, and interactions with faculty, students, and staff.
- Acknowledge that conflicts and the resolution of conflicts, between individuals and among groups, are integral to the collaborative learning process, and demonstrate responsibility for resolving these conflicts while maintaining respect for all individuals involved regardless of the outcome.
- Maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy of personal or professional information communicated about clients, one's employer, other students or their employers.
- Accept responsibility for working collaboratively in the learning process, and for the achievement of those learning outcomes linked to group performance.
- Adhere strictly to University standards of academic integrity, including policies on plagiarism and cheating.
- Obey national, provincial, and local laws and abide by the regulations of the University.
