It is my great pleasure to welcome you to Meritus University. Founded on 30 years of academic excellence and pioneering of Apollo Group and its vast online educational resources, Meritus University is the realization of what education can be – global in breadth and reach, local in relevance, and very effective.

Today Canadian middle-school math students routinely log into online algebra lessons while South African high school students use virtual white boards to bridge vast geographies and limited resources. There is not one discipline or career path that has not been impacted by the World Wide Web and its universe of 1.4 billion users.

As an educator I find these times challenging and exciting. The digital age has spawned a technological continuum of change where learning to unlearn and relearn has never been more vital. Where global economic factors result in multiple careers in one's lifetime. Where building a knowledge-base has become the most important multiplier for a community's economic development – and potentially its greatest divide.

My hope for Meritus University is that it becomes a bridge across this divide by offering Canadians nationwide a path to higher education and continuous learning, becoming a global ambassador to all that is great about Canada, our education and our people.
